I could small the moss and hear the rushing water when I was painting this piece from a photo taken over ten years ago. Capturing that feeling of deep woods, wet spray, and filtered sunlight was the challenge. I started with a monochromatic underpainting to establish the light and dark in this complicated piece and it paid off when it came time to add color and texture. The reference photo offers multiple variations based on how I crop the image and could be a candidate for additional works based on this location
