Maja Petric is an award-winning contemporary artist who creates installations and sculptures using custom-developed new media. Her exhibition, Specimens of Time, will appear at the Vestibule in November of 2024. She creates artwork that seamlessly incorporates light and advanced technology such as AI. Her works aim to explore how our existence is interconnected, and she pushes the limits of emerging media to elicit these connections viscerally. Each of Maja's works starts by depicting the sublime elements of nature, intending to draw people in by evoking a universal and inherent connection with the environment. However, once immersed, the layers of her pieces reveal more challenging themes, encompassing depictions of mortality, interdependence, climate change, and collective action.
Maja's artwork has been showcased internationally, including exhibitions at the FOR-SITE, Henry Art Gallery, Farol Santander Sao Paulo, MadArt Studio, Jacob Lawrence Gallery, Landmark Hong Kong, and others. She has been commissioned to produce installations for National Geographic, SEATAC Airport, Meta, Google, Microsoft, Landmark Hong Kong, and Amazon, among others. Maja has received awards such as the Lumen Prize for Art and Technology, the Microsoft Research Award, the Richard Kelly Light Art Award, the Doctoral Fellowship from the National Science Foundation, and others. Her work has been featured in many international publications, including The New York Times, BBC, Fast Company, FRAME magazine, The Seattle Times, Deutsche Welle, etc.
