It has been said about James the Minor Prophet that he prayed so much he had calluses on his knees. In AD 62 he was stoned, beaten with a club, then thrown from the top of the temple.

After the death of James the Great, he became the head of the Jewish Christian community in Jerusalem and is also said to have been active in Egypt.
His attribute is a filling stock, a kind of pole used in the preparation of wool. Other symbols: a club or a saw. James was stoned in AD 62 and then killed with a club, after which he was thrown down from the top of the Temple.
Another version is that his dead body was then sawn through.
According to one legend, he was so strong in his faith that he prayed at such length that he developed pads on his knees.

In addition, James is shown with a fulling stock for the preparation of wool. The fulling stock is rubbed backwards and forwards over the wood in order to bring out the nap.
