MessageThis vessel comes from the Hopi nation in Arizona. Hopi ceramics are known for their ability to change color during the firing process. Gray clay produces yellow wares, and yellow clay produces red wares. Hopi pottery also uses traditional and natural designs such as birds and other wildlife. In this yellow/tan vessel, there appears to be red and black imaging on the exterior of the surface. They appear to be symbols, calling back to neighboring nations who also used symbols in their ceramics, like the Zia. The bottom of this vessel is signed "Ann," leaving the artist up for debate.
