Artist notes: This first painting in a diptych features a compilation of chosen trees at Saint John Point on Mayne Island in British Columbia. The work was completed using references from the previous summer on an early morning wild fire Smokey day giving the landscape a surreal pink-orange glow. I started it at the beginning of the war in Ukraine and painted with a series of melancholy cello music playing. Such beauty coming from references to climate change and mark making during global unrest and war!
