We produce grain, meat and wool that is exported all around the world. Our existence is heavily tied to the rules and markets of international borders.
Agriculture is threatened by climatic conditions, corporate upsizing, and the absence of understanding of agriculture from a city centric population and knee-jerk government shifts in policy. Border closures, inconsistent export rules, foot and mouth disease concerns conflicting with Bali holiday makers, farm biosecurity breaches by visitors taking selfies in the paddocks, and carbon concerns are all destabilising agriculture products security.
What if we are unable supply food to the world because of perceptions and decisions from this detached populous?
The reality is the borders of the family farm are under threat and farmers are in defence mode. The remote nature of this existence is out of sight and mind for many, disconnected from the wool in their clothing, and the meat and grains on their table.
