Sculpture - In the Environment
This gallery contains a range of very large wire sculptures that are suitable for gardens and the outdoors. They range in size from around 2 metres to a massive 33 metres. You may have seen some of these down at Cottesloe Beach or in the deep forest at Northcliffe. I can be commissioned to make one just for you!
Sculpture - Studio Size
This collection shows sculptures ranging in size from approx 1meter to 3m that are suitable for indoors or outdoors.
these are mostly knitted sculptures that are ground based, suspended or can be placed on a plinth.
Sculpture - Petite
The sculptures here are smaller, you could say, coffee table sized, up to approximately 50cms in height or width. These little works can be free-standing sculpture or wall based and occasionally hanging. Sometimes I will make a small-scale model first (a maquette), when I'm planning to make a larger sculpture. This lets me try out ideas and test the structural integrity of the wire in that shape when combined with wire gauge, stitch tension and gravity.
Wallworks - Knit, Crochet & Weave
These works include knitted, crocheted and woven sculptural works that can be wall mounted. They are are transparent and produce beautiful shadows when lit with directional light. You will also find wire drawings in this gallery
Wallworks - Embroider & Stitch
This group of works include layered metal that is stitched down and embroidered with wires. I use couching, weaving, knit, crochet and stitch on these ‘canvases’ The works are sculptural pieces that are suitable to be wall mounted. They are created and mounted on a solid backing substrate usually metal.
Wallworks - Drawings
This gallery contains a range of stylised and abstract wire drawings. Some are simple line drawings and others are constructed with multiple textile techniques to reveal tonal variation and textures that convey depth and perspective. These sculptures can be hung in space or mounted directly onto the wall.
Jewellery
Neckpieces, Earrings and Bracelets
My jewellery collections are mainly wire based and I love to make heavy wire chains. I will combine wire with found treasures like seeds, nuts, stones, glass, china and found pieces of metal, the wire becoming a passive carrier to show off the 'gem'. Steel is my favourite wire to use and many pieces can be quite rustic in their origin and this transfers thru to the finished object. Sometimes I will knit intimate sized sculptures that are wearable.
Event & Festival Installations
Created with brightly coloured surveyors tape, these temporary installations are markers on the landscape, industrial signifiers of change and places of activity. They are softer textile interventions and usually constructed in the public domain. They are bright, fun and eye-catching pieces perfect for events.
I can create installation work with recycled textiles, plastics and metals for festivals and community projects and am available for private and public commissions for this sort of installation.
Vessels
These pieces are somewhat practical sculpture, they can be used to hold things or be displayed just as they are.
Mixed & Other Media
The works in this gallery are mixed media pieces or constructed in other types of media, including plastics, paper, fibre, photography and digital works.
Public Art, Commissioned Works & Collections
This gallery collection contains sculptures I have created that are now permanent public artworks, and pieces that reside in public and major private collections. A selection of privately commissioned sculptures can be viewed here. There are quite a few pieces in various locations across Western Australia.
