This piece was created to honour British Columbia's beloved costal wolf, Takaya. I chose to depict what I imagined the sunrise to be on the day that Takaya swam to the mainland and began one of the greatest journeys of his life. Here he is looking back to bid one final farewell to his island home before moving forward on his new adventure, one which ultimately has led to greater human awareness of wolves, and so many people working together to protect these incredible animals and their habitats. And so, even though we are saddened by how his journey ended, we can see that Takaya has shifted the hearts of so many and will continue to be a bright light guiding us to a better way of living alongside wolves. That is what Takaya's legacy represents to me. May we all work together to create a better world for all who live here.
