Inspired by a studio portrait my mother had done of herself to send to her husband, Mike, who was away fighting in WWII. The lighting created a beautiful and alluring photograph, taken circa 1941. As I painted, the overly intense lighting in the photograph was toned down to establish a softer note and establish a quietly nostalgic effect.
