Dragons - Fly by Susan Detroy Image: Front of folded sculptural book. Dragons-Fly was created over six months. If you’re interested in purchasing this piece, I will create a duplicate.
My folded, sculptural dragonfly book incorporates many of my beloved analog techniques and themes. I began using dragonfly imagery in my art making in the early 90’s when I learned alternative historic photographic processes, producing one of a kind layered prints. Making the Dragons-Fly book is a natural pathway with the years of creating and calling on the inspiration of this stunning creature.
The book shows my life long layering and combing style. I made the original designs with multiple coatings of acrylic paint, pen, pencil, watercolor, ink markers and transfers materials. The transfers employ a crosshatching matte medium method, utilizing color copies of previous artworks as the base images. I chose a blue and green color theme to fit the natural environment where I see dragonflies.
As a visual story teller working in both analog and digital media, I am excited to offer this one of kind dragonfly book and traveling box. The book was created through out March into August 2025. The traveling box exemplifies another of my passions which is reuse and recycle. I am glad to find a use for the container to house the book and provide a safe journey.
Dragons-Fly can be displayed in multiple positions with the traveling box.
