William Howard Taft (Sept. 15, 1857 – March 8, 1930) was born in Cincinnati. He was appointed first to the superior court of Cincinnati and later to the federal circuit court for the 6th District, before becoming the 27th president of the United States, serving from 1909 to 1913. He later became the chief justice of the U.S. Supreme Court in 1921. He died in Washington in 1930, the same year he retired from the Supreme Court.
