I went on a walk around our rental while visiting Louisville, KY, and I was inspired to paint this storm water runoff area because of the scene's natural and man-made color palettes, one-point perspective, and dappled sunlight.
The location also interests me because it’s supposed to be off limits, but obviously some graffiti artists are so attracted to the potential the walls present, that they ignore any possible consequences that may happen to them.
The graffiti represented in this artwork, however, is actually a nonobjective underpainting which I've allowed to show through in the spaces where the graffiti on location was present. The effect mimics layers upon layers of paint, and provides points of interest without specifics which can be interpreted uniquely by the viewer.
