MessageCollection: Transfiguration
Transfigurationism is the start of a new direction in art concerned with transcendence and moving towards the Divine.
Stephen Bishop uses a new technique which he has called “impasto gigante’.
The art celebrates the physicality of paint and embraces the spiritual in art.
A feature of these new art works is the use of impasto gigante.
Impasto gigante is a heightened use of traditional impasto techniques to such an extent that the thick paint becomes the subject and embodies the emotion and spirit of the work. It often has a characteristic abstract appearance which frees the emotion and spirit to soar.

It use is often exemplified by single large scale exuberant colour blob. The sculptural three-dimensional quality elevates the works (both large and small scale) to an operatic level of intensity.
