Stone
This stone sphere is a powerful symbol of feminine energy, shelter, and protection.
The sphere is composed of a diverse array of stones, including basalt, chert, and jasper, each chosen for their natural beauty and grounding energy with a black line of basalt circling the diameter. The smooth, rounded shape evokes the strength and nurturing presence of ancient earth and the sacred role of stones in early human civilisations.
Stones like these have been used for millennia in the construction of shelters, symbols of protection and resilience. This sphere embodies that deep connection to our ancestors and serves as a reminder of the quiet strength found in nature’s creations. A timeless piece, it’s both an object of beauty and a meditation on the enduring feminine force that sustains and shelters us.
Over the past week, I’ve been focused on the exciting yet challenging process of upscaling my stone spheres for public outdoor commissions. As the scale increases, so do the engineering complexities—from ensuring the stability of the sculpture to addressing the structural support needed for larger, heavier materials. Alongside this, I’m also navigating the health and safety aspects of creating public sculptures, making sure every piece not only stands the test of time but also ensures the safety of its environment.
