“These colorful little ducks are plentiful in South Dakota’s marshes in the spring and can be seen during their courtship display when they ‘fan’ their tail and tuck their bright blue bill into their maroon-colored chest. This original was entered into the 2010 Federal Duck Stamp contest and finished fifth out of nearly 300 entries. The painting went on a year-long tour and was displayed along with the other top 20 entries at art shows throughout the country.”

Growing up in South Dakota, Adam Oswald spent his childhood dreaming of excuses to be outside. Although an avid hunter, Adam recognizes capturing the quarry is not his main goal, but rather the act of just being in nature. Painting is his form of note-taking and a way to share his experiences. Adam notices and captures the behavior of all wild things, and the way light highlights those observations. Asking questions of these natural investigations keeps Adam’s art evolving as he continues to learn and share his findings.
