“The title pays homage to the Indigenous cultures that have used Bear Butte for prayer, worship, and guidance for thousands of years. I am often drawn to photograph Bear Butte not only because of its majestic beauty, but also because of its calming nature. I feel at peace when I am there, and I wanted that peace to come across with this image.”

A full-time photographer working on websites, logos, and local travel guides,
currently living in Spearfish, Jesse Brown Nelson grew up exploring the Black Hills and Badlands.
He’d like to think he knows every inch of these spaces like the back of his hands, but one of
his favorite things to do with his free time is to get out, explore, and to look for new places and adventures. His daily work is fast-paced and hectic, but his time spent with his camera in nature helps him find the balance and peace he needs in life.
