London

My artwork is a rollercoaster of the materials that have shaped my life as a black woman.

An interview
This work was made to commemorate the recent anniversary of the docking of the Windrush a ship that carried a generation of West Indian migrants to the UK. Some of these migrants have been sent back to the West Indies via enforced deportation despite decades of service in poorly paid essential jobs in the UK. The work contains an excerpt of an interview with the chairman of a leading Caribbean cultural organisation. The question of objectification is opened up in multiple ways via the video. There is also a complication of the history of this ship and migration as it relates to international history and pervious generations of black migrants in Britain and in the world.
