- A Common Thread Quilt Top, 2007
- Cotton
- 47 x 47 in (119.38 x 119.38 cm)
- Inv: 2008.393.014
This quilt was left unfinished at the time of Dorothy's death in February of 2007. However, 24 panels were either finished or almost finished, and Dianne Ayres, of Arts & Craft Period Textiles in Oakland, Calif., has pinned them together for this exhibition. The puzzle here is for the viewer to identify the "common thread" (a final textile pun): the unifying factor that brings together this assortment of characters from history, fiction, movies, legend, and popular culture.
Here is a hint: what do Henry David Thoreau, Martha Stewart and Oscar Wilde have in common?
