Lies of Poets

2024

Lies of Poets explores the playful and insightful narratives of Greek and Roman mythology, drawing inspiration from C.S. Lewis's retelling of Psyche's myth in Till We Have Faces.

Through a series of portraits, I embrace self-imposed limitations to immerse myself in the painting process. The characters of my portraits reveal themselves at their own pace. Each portrait begins with a single sculptural source material, and as I work, I transition through a variety of sources, eventually distancing myself from any specific reference, painting freely.

By blending color palettes that are simultaneously contemporary and archaic with familiar ancient imagery, I aim to create a dialogue between the past and present, inviting viewers to contemplate the cyclical nature of time through my own retelling.

Ouroboros

2022

The ouroboros is a serpent consuming its own tail, a figure of perpetual becoming—where destruction and creation exist as one continuous act.

This series of acrylic, oil, and gold leaf paintings, layers images on top of expressive mark-making, exploring  duality, transformation, and cyclical motifs.

Carnival

Carnival is a series of four large-scale acrylic paintings, some incorporating gold gold leaf, inspired by New Orleans and Mardi Gras. Using photographs of friends as a starting point, the works transform moments of celebration into theatrical, symbolic images that move between portraiture and myth.
