Daughter of a painter and architect under the family names Serrano de la Piedra, Valentina studied Industrial Design at the Ibero-American University where she actively participated in the League of Students and created a Child Creativity Program to support the children of campus teachers and employees. From the success of this program she was selected to study Communication Arts at the University of California, San Francisco.
Following her formal education Valentina worked as a designer for five years and created the children’s character “Makiko” in collaboration with Mattel Toys and the Television Program “In Family”, achieving sales of over one million copies in the Republic of Mexico. In 1985, after the birth of her second child, Valentina studies formal watercolor under the recognized teachers Alicia Leiva and Manual Arrieta.
Since moving to Houston in 1990, Valentina collaborated with the Jack Bowen Studio 95 in Williams Tower, has been an active member of the Watercolor Society of Houston. The Art League of Houston, and the Glassell School. She has participated in numerous workshops, classes, and seminars by Arthur Turner, Willi Wang, Keiko Yaousoa and Duncan Simon, Guan Weixing, Stephan Quilt, Caroline Anderson and others
Valentina has individually exhibited her work in more than one hundred exhibitions sponsored by the Pan-American University, House of Culture Delegation Benito Juarez, Gallery Group Santorini, Gallery Aztecs, Club San Angel, NASA, US Immigration and Naturalization Service, the Hall of Watercolor, and Museo del Carmen, and permanent public displays at Las Alamedes Restaurant and Chapelwood UMC. In 2008 Valentina was commissioned by Mexico President Felipe Calderon to present an original painting.
