Although I had made prints since 1957, it was only after 1968 that I turned my full attention to them and drawing. I have chosen to restrict my efforts to these techniques because I feel that the images that I want to make feel best in small format and in the mediums of printmaking. I use the screenprint because of the way in which I can build form, correct, and change through layering. My interest in detail and surface draws me to this medium. The character of the various kinds of stencils and the ability to manipulate gloss, satin, and flat finish inks, opacity and transparency, and hue make it a natural for the way that I work. My pictures are small dramas and I want them to operate in the sense of drama both literally and abstractly.

The Test of Time: CME is a 52 color screenprint commissioned by Gelderman, Inc., of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange.

The mission of the South Carolina Arts Commission is to promote access to the arts and support the cultivation of creativity in South Carolina. We envision a South Carolina where the arts are valued and all people benefit from a variety of creative experiences.

A state agency created by the South Carolina General Assembly in 1967, the SCAC works to increase public participation in the arts through grants, direct programs, staff assistance and partnerships in artist development, arts industry, arts learning, creative placemaking, and folklife and traditional arts. Headquartered in Columbia, S.C., the SCAC is funded by the state of South Carolina, by the federal government through the National Endowment for the Arts, and other sources.
