During the years 1967-1972, I worked on a series of prints built upon information from those geographic areas which have determined the states. I also included the provinces of Canada since I had visited and sketched and photographed in all but one. The name of this group of prints was from the larger project ‘American Album’ and was called Part I – The States and Provinces of North America. I tried to capture some element and/or feeling that was particular to each place.
B.C. – Three Roads has to do with impressions of British Columbia in a general sense, but it has some specific photographic material that was made in that province by myself – namely, photographs of a river and a couple of roads. The photo material was reproduced on a metal photogravure plate which was printed over a collograph. Some screen printing was used to finalize the image.

The mission of the South Carolina Arts Commission is to promote access to the arts and support the cultivation of creativity in South Carolina. We envision a South Carolina where the arts are valued and all people benefit from a variety of creative experiences.

A state agency created by the South Carolina General Assembly in 1967, the SCAC works to increase public participation in the arts through grants, direct programs, staff assistance and partnerships in artist development, arts industry, arts learning, creative placemaking, and folklife and traditional arts. Headquartered in Columbia, S.C., the SCAC is funded by the state of South Carolina, by the federal government through the National Endowment for the Arts, and other sources.
