“Herin Regal may be called a visual meditation. In meditation, one repeats a mantra, which is a mystical formula of invocation. I have invented a visual mantra which is repeated about 45 to 50,000 times per layer in this painting. Variations and juxtapositions occur which develop richness. When all this works properly together, a work such as Herin Regal results. The work is named for my studio assistant, John Herin and for its own purple or regal color.”
