Art Burrows landed in the Roaring Fork Valley 42 yeas ago and began building and marketing skis. This inauspicious failed beginning was the fork in the road that forged a creative career which produced physical environmental designs enjoyed by the Aspen community over the years, as well as his well known graphic design, photography.
Originally schooled in Italy, he studied drawing, painting and history as it related to the classics and the great renaissance cultural and political explosions of the 16th century. However, the need to survive financially meant those classical talents would need to be applied to the pragmatic needs of design in the real world.
Mr. Burrows design, photography, graphic work and product design has garnered awards including GRAPHIS (two prestigious Graphis Awards), the Denver Advertising Federation, and the The Banff Mountain Film and Book Festival and the Banff Center for Culture in Canada. He is also the co-author and designer of Fifty Classic Ski Descents of North America which has become a foundational stone in the world of ski mountaineering and exploration.
“My dual-multi life has encompassed creative expression, design for purposeful products and ambitions hard-fought adventures into the wild, discovering and capturing life in difficult places and sometimes in dangerous circumstance. Like an escaped feral dog, I’ve been on very long, hard multi-day explorations, and like a suvival dog I’ve always managed to return home, sometimes beaten and injured but always with a new appreciation for the simple raw beauty of nature and the comfort of home to write, create and re-engage with my life in the valley.”
“My newest adventure starts here with an opportunity to join the other creatives here at the Red Brick Arts Center. Like my adventures in the wild the landscape will be a new challenge and outcomes not totally known. It will evolve over the next few years, so I invite you to come by and visit the galleries and my studio to see for yourselves.”
