This piece was inspired by a solitary sunrise walk in winter at Moonfleet on the Dorset Coast. The coast line is stunning there, but I was looking inland at the bare ploughed fields, lichen covered dry stone walls and beautifully lit clouds. It was also the time of the Wolf Moon- a large full moon in late autumn- which features in some of this series of prints. I love to walk alone at sunrise and these walks often inspire my work.
Each piece has been started as a photopolymer etching- a way of making a printing plate by photographically exposing a drawn image onto it, thereby printing the exact marks of a drawing, as an etching. I have then collaged coloured and textured tissue paper into the pieces, as well as hand mono-printed onto them (this is like printed painting- very gestural). Each piece emerges from the process completely unique- albeit with a family resemblance to the others in the series.
