MessageCollection: Expressions / Visional
Robin Antar’s Visional works emerge from a singular perceptual reality. At sixteen, she discovered she had been blind in one eye since birth. Rather than an affliction, she embraced this unbalanced vision as an extraordinary artistic gift. Without natural depth perception, her sculptures are conceived from the inside out, grounded in immediate proximity to her own upper torso and line of sight. The interaction of nose, cheekbone, and shifting planes becomes magnified, abstracted through grid structures that fracture and reassemble perspective. Working in tinted limestone, Antar uses deliberately harsh color differentiation not for beauty, but to intensify tension and conflict within the composition. These works reject superficial aesthetics in favor of fundamental sensation. Headaches become carved strain, mood becomes line, and vision becomes material. Through these sculptures, Antar invites viewers to inhabit her altered perception and reconsider what it means to truly see.
