During the pandemic, I woke up one day and said to myself, "I want to have some people visit my studio." I could not let anyone in because of COVID-19, so I decided to create studio visitors out of stone. These pieces are carved out of a very rare piece of blue onyx.
Studio Visitors was created during the COVID-19 pandemic, when Robin Antar found herself isolated from the steady stream of collectors, friends, and visitors who normally passed through her studio. Longing for connection, she decided to create her own visitors in stone. Carved from a rare piece of blue onyx distinguished by dramatic golden veining, the sculpture transforms a period of separation into one of imagination and companionship. The paired forms stand together in quiet dialogue, reflecting the human need for connection even in moments of physical distance. Rich in color and natural pattern, the stone itself becomes an active part of the work, with its luminous blue tones and flashes of gold bringing warmth and vitality to a sculpture born from isolation.
