Blog # 13 Memory
The ability of the mind to store and remember information. We all have memories. Some of my best memories I recall, was when I did something that was not part of my regular day. As an example, I loved to go camping. I would drive to the Boundary Waters, a region between Minnesota and Canada, 200 miles north of Minneapolis. On Friday after working all week, I would head up North anxious to arrive at this most beautiful region. Sleep in my car that night. At daybreak I would paddle a canoe filled with supplies across the water, I would repeat this process until I reached my favorite lake. The site was so remote I was alone with the wilderness. It was peaceful and inspiring. After pitching my tent, I would build my cook fire for my meal. I would turn that fire into a campfire and sketch. Listening to the crackle and watching the flames twinkle different colors. From those memories I painted “Campfire” in 1982. As I am writing this blog my mind is at that place. I own the painting. The pillow is on my favorite chair. The background was so black the only light was from the flames, with its dancing array of colors. What a wonderful memory. Memories, just as this one, will always live on in my mind. Over not out
