- Linda Atkinson
- The Holy in the Everyday, 2025
- Mixed media collage on board
- 23 x 15 in
Guided by creative intuition, Atkinson gathers pieces of a sunlit landscape and arranges them much like Annie Dillard’s collage of anecdotes eventually became Pilgrim at Tinker Creek. We in the three-dimensional realm are invited to look through the cathedral window, at a world constructed on paper but no less immersive.
The artist writes, “Inside the rough-hewn frame is a collage of hidden objects – a penny, a frog, some turtles, a bird, a fish, a butterfly. This represents my appreciation for Dillard’s essay, ‘Seeing’. The altar-like format of the piece and the angel represent Dillard’s reverence for nature, and the hidden objects are a testament to Dillard’s attention to the minuscule world around her.”
