- Charlene Graves
- African Mosaic, 1993
- Acrylic On Canvas
Long-serving Arts Commissioner Charlene Graves painted African Mosaic during her time as a school art teacher in New York. Painted as an educational tool, each country of the African continent was researched and designed by the artist to engage students in some fact or imagery of the country. Graves, a Roanoke native, made posters that hung in each classroom and created puzzles to even more actively engage learners.
