The large scale neon sculpture entitled 'Roanoke Star' is arguably the most well known piece in Roanoke City's Public Art Collection. The 'Roanoke Star' is the world's largest freestanding illuminated man-made star and was first illuminated in 1949. This eighty-eight foot star can be seen on top of Mill Mountain from all around Roanoke City.
