Having fallen in love with the mountains during a visit to Roanoke, commercial photographer Aaron Spicer moved to the community just prior to the pandemic. Since then, he’s gotten involved by volunteering in the outdoors and arts communities, mentoring both marathon runners and emerging creative entrepreneurs.

Public Works reflects both Spicer’s work in portraiture and his love for exploring the urban landscape, camera in hand.

“I want to share my love of the area,” says Spicer. “Roanoke really is the ‘mountain/metro mix’ that we say we are.” While it’s been harder to network with other artists during the pandemic, Spicer is actively working to strengthen the arts community from his studio in Campbell Avenue’s Aurora Building.
