- Juan Nicholas Guacheta'
A director at Txtur, and an adjunct director at Vallt Art Cooperative, Juan Nicholas Guachetá is no stranger to the Roanoke arts movement. He is a board member of the Grandin Theatre and a member of the Taubman Museum of Art’s 110 Society. The son of a Roanoke native and a Columbian immigrant, Guacheta’ is committed to seeing the arts and culture scene in Roanoke grow.
Guachetá began oil painting in 2021, and focuses on gray-scale portraits. He says that when beginning this piece, he “thought of how childhood is a both a birthplace and a graveyard for our adult selves … and how this setting made me who I am today–for better or worse.” Pictured in the work is the back of one of his family’s restaurants, a frequent site of his explorations as a youth.
