Margaret Sue Turner Wright, a plein air artist and figure painter, manages and paints at Gallery 202. With Dana Philips and Karen Carter, she is one of the founders of Plein Air Roanoke, which is an annual festive outdoor painting competition of painting any subject outdoors, aka, en Plein Air!
“It’s a healthy, incredibly fun, outdoor sport for all ages,” says Wright. “It frees the spirit, body, and mind. You really get to know its beauty up close.”
This ‘story portrait’ (a term Wright coined) features a primary scene of the artist at the Roanoke River and includes other local plein air painting events, the legacy of her father, NASCAR Hall of Famer Curtis Turner, and the band GoldRush in which she sang on the day in which she met her husband, Barry Wright, in 1972.
