With both playfulness and reverence, artist Casey Murano collaborates with nature to create visual poetry. Paper with watercolor is submerged into river water, allowing the rippling movement to be nature’s brush as it activates the pigment. Following this baptism, Murano continues the artwork outdoors, her drawings in mindful conversation with the impression left by nature itself. This process calls upon the question of “how to stay awake in wonder,” and a practice of “cultivating attentiveness to the holy, the pulsing depth of each moment.”
Referencing the passage that gives the work its title, Murano adds, “Annie Dillard is one who I see as really good at waking herself and her readers up to the mysteries of daily experience.”
