The uncertainty of the young man with the portfolio about the naked "déjeuner sur l'herbe" is palpable, whichever order you hang the two parts of the diptych -- but so is our uncertainty about whether it is the brightly coloured scene that is unreal or the monochrome figures depicted within it.
