Go and Meet the Rain series has its inception from a moving line in the ancient Book of Changes - the I Ching. This text deals in elemental realities and this aphorism suggested to me the greening of the desert after rainfall. This directed me to move to that place in myself where my creativity bubbles forth, and in darker, more challenging times I feel a much stronger imperative to do so.

The idea of working with white to give a sense of glowing, streaming light has been with me for a number of years. This series gave me an opportunity to create a group of diverse paintings, all dealing each in their own way with this light. In this canvas I was able to use multiple layers of very dry viscous paint with very wet fluid paint, thus creating hard opaque and soft and translucent areas in the painting which work together to give a sense of gleaming clarity and soft ambiguity at the same time.
