Somewhat in response to Monet's Water Lilies which show mostly water with round lily pads floating on top. This painting takes the opposite approach by focusing on the foliage of the lilies rather than the water. The idea of the round lily pad floating on water is ignored in this painting. There is ample beauty in the sun soaked leaves with some water, but no flowers.
