Purple may represent many qualities or emotions. In this case, the monsoons were building and building, but not yet active. There were many clouds and at times the sky could turn purple, but then it would rain in the mountains or not at all. The prior monsoon seasons were anemic with very little rain, as is the case in many areas as Global Warming advances, and more and more states face drought. On the other hand, purple can signify magic and that is exactly how the monsoons feel, magical and life-giving!
