Another You by Sophie Seaver - MED13L (Sibling), Image 1.
My twin sister, born seven minutes after me, has Med13L. We’ve lived our lives alongside each other. I’ve never known anything else. She will always be a part of me. Some things I’m good at, she’ll never be able to do, and it’s not fair. We both have dreams, so why can I reach some that she can’t? Having a rare disease, it’s easy to feel “different.” But in truth, everyone feels different. When you feel different it can seem like everyone else is similar. When we realize we all feel different, then we feel similar to everyone else. Somewhere out there, there’s “Another You.” Countless “other you’s.” I included a moment of silence in my song to honor the nonverbal. And all rare disease community members and their unseen sacrifices. Also, there are “Oohs” meant to make this song more accessible to sing along to. Singing together is such a powerful experience. Coming together is so important to rare disease groups. Power in numbers. Countless “other you’s.” To support each other. To advocate. To find medicines. Together we are not so rare. Birth Year: 2009
