I was given permission from John Partipilo to use his photo as reference for this painting. It is a powerful photo and I hope I captured the same beauty as he did in the original image. I’ll be doing another painting of this same image but it will include the full composition. I decided to crop this one and see how it translated in my process. Hopefully the final painting will be included in John’s book on the civil rights movement.
