Artist Statement – Remedy Rewired
This piece captures the side of a historic building in Louisville’s East Market District, once home to the German-owned pharmacy Voelker & Company and now the contemporary gallery Garner Narrative. I was drawn to the structure not just for its history, but for the way the red fire escape and power lines choreograph across the brick surface—an urban geometry of movement, connection, and tension.

The title Remedy Rewired reflects the building’s evolution: from dispensing physical cures to offering visual and emotional ones. Both the pharmacy and the gallery serve as responses to what ails us—one through medicine, the other through art. The piece invites viewers to consider how spaces shift purpose over time, while still offering a kind of healing.
