Oeiras, Portugal
Self-taught Ceramist and Artist whose imaginary worlds explore the layers of memory and time.
MessageMade for 2023 Annual Members Event at SNBA (National Society of Fine Arts), in Lisbon that celebrates 125years of the birth of the modernist Portuguese painter Almada Negreiros.
Inspired on a personal photograph taken during my last visit to São Tomé e Principe (2022), specifically at Roça Saudade, birth place of the Almada, this piece talks about the legacy of slavery, survival, perception of real value and personal value, and the female and condition in São Tomé e Principe, which remains unchanged in essence.
It also points out the blindness of the white ex-colonist tourist who sees only the romance and simplicity beauty of the past.
Mounted on a inverted frame the figure begs interaction and emphasises the urgency of her condition and that she will not be contained.
