In Māori culture, identifying your roots through a specific bend in a river or a unique grove of trees is to name your Tūrangawaewae—literally, "a place to stand." It represents the powerful, absolute right to feel empowered and declare, "I belong here." Inspired by this tree I encountered at the Christchurch Botanic Gardens during a 2023 trip, this piece captures that profound sense of grounded connection. This tree is my place to stand.
