Perseverance. This is the synergy, the intersection, of being of a working artist and primary family caregiver. Perseverance gets things done. Not easily nor quickly, but in spite of difficulty and rapidity. This pendant earned its name. The design I sketched did not easily come into being. Those lovely little faceted pyrite beads really did not take kindly to being counterbalanced by much less dense (and therefore much lighter) glass, crystal and citrine briolette beads.
Neither does being responsible for the care of a loved one with a debilitating and ultimately terminal disease. What is the intersection?
I created this piece while I was caring at home for my late mother who died of Alzheimer's Disease.
I was a Fearless Caregiver. I did not let either the disease nor external obstacles get in the way of making my mother's final decade as happy and comfortable as possible.
I persevered in both caregiving and making this unusual necklace behave as I wanted it to do.
