‘Breathing Waters’ balances the fluid spontaneity, connectedness and chaos of water against a structured composition and layered textures, to evoke a meditative visual experience. Together, I hope the color, the light and the mosaic form a cohesive, immersive view of a vast body of water, capturing depth, movement, and transparency.
‘Breathing Waters’ is a mixed-media painting composed of 16 individual panels on heavy watercolor paper.
The segmented format of ‘Breathing Waters’ adds an intriguing grid-like structure to the composition. Each 22x30 inch panel functions as an individual snapshot while simultaneously contributing to the unified whole, inviting you to experience water as a dynamic, living force.
Transitioning from the foamy, light-filled surface at the top, where delicate white highlights suggest the play of light on gentle waves, down through increasingly deep and rich shades of blue to the heart of an ocean, with deep cobalt and ultramarine hues evoking the shifting currents and vast unknowns beneath the surface. The lower panels blend into tranquil teal and aqua tones, grounding the piece with a sense of depth and serenity.
