Initially, I hesitated to paint the sky this blue, but the skies of Alice Springs are genuinely extraordinary. Their vivid brightness stems from unique atmospheric conditions and elevation. The dry, crystal-clear air of the outback, combined with the relatively high altitude of Alice Springs, intensifies the scattering of blue wavelengths, creating an almost surreal blue hue.
This piece was painted near the base of Trephina Gorge, where the interplay of colours reflects the natural movement and spirit of the landscape. Trephina Gorge is part of the sacred lands of the Arrernte traditional owners, holding deep cultural and spiritual significance.
