'Call Home' is a piece that has evolved over time. I originally created it in 2017, but it wasn't until 2018 that I decided to revamp it by adding the background. It's a concept that I'm particularly fond of and would love to revisit and recreate again in the future.
The central character of 'Call Home' is 'Nebula', a character I created myself who makes appearances in several of my pieces. She's like my 'other half', embodying a unique aspect of my creative vision. There's a story behind Nebula that I'm eager to share someday, but for now, she remains a mysterious and intriguing presence in my artwork.
In this piece, Nebula is depicted smoking a joint, lost in thought as she reminisces about life in space. The background addition in the revamped version adds depth and context to the scene, enhancing the overall narrative. It's a moment of reflection for Nebula, a chance to reconnect with her cosmic origins and contemplate the vastness of the universe.
The phrase "Call Home" takes on multiple meanings in this context. It could refer to Nebula's longing to return to her celestial home among the stars, or it could symbolize her desire to find a sense of belonging and connection in the world she now inhabits. Or it could be a move reference. Either way, it speaks to the universal human experience of seeking comfort and familiarity in the midst of uncertainty.
The theme of getting high, both literally and metaphorically, runs throughout the piece. Nebula's joint represents a physical escape from the mundane realities of life, while also serving as a metaphor for the transcendent experiences of the mind and soul. It's a reminder that sometimes, the only way to reach new heights is to let go and allow ourselves to be carried away by the currents of our imagination.
