In 2014 when I turned 60 on January 1st, I had the bright idea that I would do a journal quilt once a week. I made it through 10 weeks and then dropped the project. Now that I am in the last year of my 60’s, I am determined to complete the project or at least add to it. I named the series “In the Moment in My Sixties”. Each quilt represents what was on my mind the day I made it.
On the day I made “In the Moment in My Sixties #11, I am feeling a need to slow down and take time to assess and reflect. I always use taupe fabrics to capture serenity and peace.
The message of the quilt is clear. I wrote the word “Serenity” in cursive in my handwriting on the front of the quilt. The quilt is embellished with charms, buttons and words and machine quilted in a curvy pattern on my Janome sewing machine.
The back of the quilt is a taupe upholstery fabric. There is a hanging sleeve on the back for easy display and a label that documents the quilt.
I signed it on the front and added a charm that says “Sexy and Sixty.” Visit my “In the Moment in My Sixties” gallery on my web site to see all of my journal quilts.
