About 2005, Bob Jacobson learned that the bollards had not been used by the Faribault gardener; she found them too big for her garden. Because Bob thought they belonged in Northfield, he purchased them and asked a friend to fetch and store them for some civic use. The friend gathered some college students to help move them to his garage in Northfield. Twice the bollards were unsuccessfully offered for use in various public sites. The 1886 bollard design did, however, serve as the inspiration for the 2008 gateway bollards on Division St. designed by Spencer Jones that lead to the Riverwalk. Those bollards connect to the gateway arch at the top which incorporates the 1886 iron bridge design.
